The Bloggers' Quilt Festival

My mother and I were saying just the other day that it's almost a pity the turtle quilt was sent straight off to my cousin for her baby, as otherwise I'd have loved to exhibit it. It seems I still have a chance after all with the Bloggers' Quilt Festival.



The joke is that this baby took such a long time coming that the first baby quilt I made ended up going to my oldest friend instead. Like me, my cousin is severely disabled, and it took her and her husband four years of gruelling assisted reproduction before their daughter Annaelle was born.



Here she is at two or three weeks old on the quilt I made for her. I've been quilting for three years now and the turtle quilt was a bit step forward for me in terms of creating my own designs. I love making baby quilts, the bright fabrics are so cheering, and I seem to have an affinity for the sea and the various critters within it. One of the special things about this quilt is how many people joined in. My friend mirrorshard and the quilting community were always there to give me excellent design advice, and when it came to physically putting the quilt together, my mother helped choose the fabrics for the shell and my friend S helped choose the fabrics for the border. I embroidered my signature lobster in the border, and a litle seahorse and starfish for my mother and S are hidden in the sea. A great deal of love went into this quilt.



Annaelle's name is embroidered in English in the top right border and in Hebrew in the bottom left. Unfortunately I discovered last month that in all the hassle of printing out Hebrew fonts, I somehow got one of the letters slightly wrong! The family is delighted regardless, and they must have spent a good two months raving to me about how pleased they are with the quilt. It sits on a pouffe in their living room and little Annaelle is put on it to wiggle about every day.
