Basted and ready to roll!

Unfortunately I'm rather tired out from all the basting, so I've had to take a few days off while I wait for my hands to stop aching, but I'm sure I'll be quilting soon. Ironically, I spent ages with my support worker creating a huge diamond grid from 15 sheets of paper I'd printed out and taped together, and then I absent-mindedly marked the grid on the wrong way around, after all that fuss! So I'll have to recalculate where I put the beaded stars, but I think it should still be perfectly manageable. For some reason everyone seems to be incapable of taking a non-blurry photo of the thing. I can take a close-up of the centre if anyone wants to see the embroidery detail, such as the stripes on the waistband.

well, it's already gorgeous. Remind me NOT to enter any contests in which you are participating. I wouldn't stand a chance :)

Wow!!!!! Just....WOW!!!!!

(Oh, and I'd love to see the details of the waistband or any other details of the center.)

It'll probably be tomorrow, I'm having a lazy evening. I managed to quilt a 6" line on a trial piece this morning and realised that my hands still hurt, so I've been taking it easy today, apart from having fun making pickled ginger and veggie sushi and so forth.

Thank you for all the compliments, everyone! I get so used to it when I'm working on a bit at a time that I don't think much of it after a while, then I stand back and see it like this and am surprised myself.

M'mmmm....pickled ginger.....yum'mmmm....

Meanwhile, much better to take care to avoid any further injury to your hands....

I love seeing the progress and watching it all come together. This looks amazing.

This is looking amazing! I am in awe.

I have another thing to blame on you and sort of on this quilt. [livejournal.com profile] storm_seller was saying that while she likes my geometric patchwork pieces, she can't really appreciate them in the same way that she can pretty pictures like this one.

So I was thinking that it would be nice to do a more applique-ish picture piece, and it might be nice to work on a smaller piece for once too, and I started browsing through my ancient history books which is where I generally find inspiration, and I started doodling last night when I couldn't sleep and I think I've come up with something that'll be pretty awesome if I can pull it off.

Except it's sort of a triptych with each panel about 24" x 60".

Yeah. What was that about small projects again....?

I'm basing it on the Ishtar gate into Babylon, starting with the Marduk dragon and bits from the wall of flowers. <3 that blue!

I have almost none of the materials, so it may have to wait until I have money again, but it will happen, oh yes :D

(My netbook is almost entirely ded, repairable for nearly the cost of buying a new one, so I may not be on MSN as much at present.)
